How many porta potties does OSHA require on a construction site?

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c) Table D-1 requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers. For 20 or more workers, OSHA requires 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. For 200 or more workers, it requires 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers. That is the legal minimum.

Jobsite toilet counts
Workers on siteOSHA minimum (Table D-1)Our recommendation with weekly service
1–101 toilet1 unit
11–201 toilet2 units
21–401 seat + 1 urinal per 403–4 units
41–802 seats + 2 urinals5–8 units
81–1203 seats + 3 urinals9–12 units

Read the standard on osha.gov. Each standard unit has a seat and a urinal. Our recommendation of 1 unit per 10 workers keeps lines short and the tank from filling before the weekly service. Twice-weekly service lets 1 unit cover about 15 to 20 workers.

How jobsite billing and service work

Jobsite porta potties bill every 28 days, not by calendar month. The first invoice adds a one-time delivery charge. Each 28-day cycle includes one service visit per week: pump-out, scrub, deodorizer and fresh paper. No new cycle is billed after you call for pickup.

  1. DeliveryCall by noon for same-day delivery. Text a pin or photo of the spot.
  2. Weekly serviceYour unit gets a set service day. The tech pumps, sanitizes, restocks and leaves a service tag.
  3. Moves and add-onsNeed it moved across the lot, another unit, or a hand wash station? One call.
  4. PickupCall or text when the job ends. No new 28-day cycle is billed after you call, and the unit leaves on the next route day.

Jobsite setups we handle

Construction porta potty rentals cover residential remodels, roofing, new homes, commercial build-outs, road and utility work, and multi-site contractors. Each setup changes the unit, the count or the service schedule. A 3-day roof job needs 1 unit on the driveway, while a 60-person lab build needs 6 units, hand washing and twice-weekly service.

Roofing and remodels

One unit on the driveway or side yard for a 3- to 10-day job. HOA neighborhoods like Kentlands and Lakelands usually want it beside the garage, not on the street.

New homes and subdivisions

Units staged by lot across Clarksburg, Urbana and Frederick County builds, moved as phases finish. One invoice for every unit.

Commercial and lab builds

Multi-unit banks plus hand wash stations for the Great Seneca Science Corridor and I-270 office and lab work. Twice-weekly service for large crews.

Unit in the street? A Montgomery County right-of-way permit applies. See permit rules by town. Add a hand wash station where crews eat or handle lead paint.

Construction & jobsites: questions before you book

How much is a jobsite porta potty per month?

A standard jobsite unit typically runs $165 to $235 per 28-day cycle with weekly service, plus a one-time delivery charge of $60 to $95. Additional units on the same site share one delivery charge.

How does the 28-day billing work?

Each cycle covers 28 days and includes one service visit per week. The card or account is billed at the start of each cycle until you call for pickup. That makes 13 cycles in a year rather than 12.

Can I put the rental under my business and get monthly invoices?

Contractor accounts can be billed by invoice after the first cycle. Send your company name, billing contact and any PO number when you book.

Can you service it twice a week?

Twice-weekly service is available for crews of more than 10 per unit or for summer heat. It costs extra per visit and is listed on your quote.

Can you deliver to several job sites in different towns?

Units can go to several sites in one order, each with its own service day. You get one statement listing every site.

Do you stake units down for wind?

Units on open lots and high floors can be staked or strapped on request at no charge. Ask for it when you book, especially for sites in open fields.
