When do you need a hand wash station?

You need a hand wash station when food is served, when kids are at the event, or when a jobsite crew handles food at lunch. OSHA 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities at construction sites where workers are exposed to harmful materials such as lead or paint. Sanitizer alone does not remove dirt or grease.

Read the rule in OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. Food vendors at Montgomery County events also need hand washing under health department rules. Confirm details with the county health office.

Where should the station go?

Place the hand wash station within 10 to 20 feet of the porta potties, on the path guests use to walk back to the party. At food events, a second station near the buffet line gets used more. Keep it on flat ground so the gray-water tank stays level.

Hand wash stations: questions before you book

Does a hand wash station need a water hookup?

A portable hand wash station needs no hookup. It holds its own fresh water in a tank and collects used water in a separate tank. Foot pumps move the water.

How many hand washes per fill?

One fill gives about 300 to 400 hand washes. That covers 100 guests for a typical party. All-day events may need a refill visit.

Is the water warm?

The water is not heated. Hot-water sinks require power and are available only inside restroom trailers.

Can I rent a hand wash station without a porta potty?

Hand wash stations rent on their own for food booths, school events, petting zoos and jobsites with indoor toilets but no sink near the work.

Will it freeze in winter?

Hand wash stations are not left out when nights stay below freezing. In winter, units come with hand sanitizer dispensers instead.

Is it single or double sided?

Each station is double sided, with a sink on each side so two people can wash at once.
