Winter Porta Potty Care in Maryland
Gaithersburg sees freezing nights from about November to March. Here is what changes for a porta potty rental when the temperature drops.

Do porta potties freeze in winter?
A porta potty tank can freeze when nights stay below about 28°F. From about November to March, service techs add an antifreeze brine to the tank at each visit so the waste stays liquid and can be pumped. The unit keeps working all winter with no changes on your side.
Flushing units and hand wash stations hold fresh water that can freeze, so in deep cold they are swapped for standard units with sanitizer.
Keep the path clear of snow
After a snowstorm, the service truck needs a plowed path to within about 50 feet of the unit, and the unit door needs to be shoveled out. A blocked unit gets serviced on the next route day after the path is clear.
Heated options for winter events
For winter weddings, holiday markets and offices, restroom trailers have heat and heat tape on the water lines. They need power all the time, so a generator must stay fueled overnight for outdoor sites without an outlet. Standard porta potties stay usable all winter with antifreeze in the tank.
